Juliet Balconies
Every C and R Direct balcony is fully compliant with all relevant current building regulations & guidelines. We offer full technical descriptions for every design which are available on request.
Building Regulations
Building regulations – Part K – state that:
The balcony guarding must be at a minimum height of 1100mm above the floor level.
The maximum gap anywhere on the balcony must be no more than 100mm to prevent children from becoming trapped – this also protects small dogs from jumping through!
The design must prevent children from being readily able to climb it and therefore should have no low horizontal rails or similar features.
Guarding must be able to resist the loads given in BS EN 1991-1-1 with its UK National Annex. Actions on structures. General actions. Densities, self-weight, imposed loads for buildings (2002) and PD 6688-1-1 Recommendations for the design of structures to BS EN 1991-1-1 (2011).
Fire Escape Regulations
Though your juliet balcony must be a minimum of 1100mm high, it also should not exceed 1100mm.where the window is part of a fire
NHBC for Balconies
Juliet Balconies must be a minimum height of 1100mm above the floor level. If the window sill is 300mm to 600mm above the floor level, the Juliet balcony must be a minimum height of 700mm above the window sill.
Anchorage and Fitting British Standard 6180
The anchorage securing the Juliet back to your building should sustain a load greater than the balcony will be subjected to and therefore you should always consult your builder or structural engineer before fitting.
Glass (BS EN 12600 & BS 6206)
- Glass in Juliet balconies must be BS EN 12600 Class [Minimum of 10mm thick toughened glass]
- Must be safety glass which if broken on impact, will break in a way which is unlikely to cause injuries
- Sufficiently robust to ensure the risk of breakage from impact is low

Your Quality Guarantee
We take pride in manufacturing solid, quality products using only the best materials and offering galvanization as standard. We also offer a 10 year no rust guarantee on juliet balconies. This means that – as long as the balcony is installed correctly, and properly maintained – you will have no rust for a minimum of 10 years, though we would expect far longer than this.
